Cantilena are delighted to announce that we have appointed Jane Anderson-Brown as our new musical director.
Jane is a singer and singing teacher who has been based in Paignton since 2009. She trained in music (singing and flute) at York and Reading Universities. Her performances have covered a wide area both geographically and artistically. She has experience of working with a wide variety of performers from local amateur societies, youth groups and professional performers.
She is the director of Red Earth Opera, and musical director for the New Century Singers (Bovey Tracey). She has previously musically directed Quay Harmony and the Torbay Gilbert and Sullivan Society. She also ran the Torbay Jubilee Choir (a project based choir which performs at civic and other events in Torbay).
She has sung as a soprano soloist with local societies, including the Shaldon Singers performance of Haydn's Creation in May 2013. She has taken small roles and covered roles for New Devon Opera. She has sung and conducted for the South Devon Singers (Teignmouth and Ivybridge Community Choirs). She gives song recitals, mostly around the west country and often in collaboration with other singers.
Jane teaches regularly in several schools in Torbay, including running whole class woodwind lessons (flutes and clarinets). She has also directed woodwind groups at the Torbay and South Devon Music Centre. She has qualified teacher status, and has taught music both in primary and secondary schools in Surrey, Hampshire and Torbay. She was a tutor for the Torbay Schools Festival, helping students to prepare and arranging music for the gala concerts at Paignton Palace Theatre and the Riviera Centre. She also teaches students privately at home, offering singing, flute, piano, clarinet, theory and aural test preparation to both adults and young students.
More information about Jane can be found on her facebook site here: https://www.facebook.com/jane.andersonbrownmusic
Our wonderful MD Hannah, together with husband Dean have produced this video of choir members singing one of our favourites, Siyahamba. While we cannot physically rehearse, we can still make music together. We hope our efforts will help raise money for Hospiscare.
